- Description
- The AMICA (Art Museum Images from Cartography Associates) database is an image library
composed of nearly a hundred and
twenty thousand digital images of works of art held in museums. The images included span the
history
of Western and non-Western art and include examples from disparate media (such as
painting,
photography, sculpture, and the decorative arts). AMICA is particularly useful because the
images can
be searched by many different parameters including Keyword (i.e., subject of the work of art or
words
contained in the title), Creator (or artist), the Date of the work's creation, as well as
other
options. In addition to the digital image, AMICA contains the full citation information for
the work
of art, including Artist, Title, Date, the Institution that owns the work, and occasionally,
a
supplementary narrative that describes the work or relates additional information. Images of
works
can be saved in an Image Workspace for future review.
