- Alternate title
- US Congressional Hearings, 1824-1979
- Description
- Congress investigates all aspects of legislation dealing with life and public policy; topics include
scientific undertakings, historical events, social welfare, economic conditions, communication
policies, and an endless array of other subjects. Published hearings are the official record
of House and Senate committee hearings. Through hearings, researchers have access to real-life
stories, statistics, expert testimony, and questions and answers as presented to Congressional
committees. Committee hearings allow the researcher to determine who the key players were on
any given piece of legislation, the proponents and the opponents, and often the reasons for the
success or failure of many government programs.
The collection includes legislative, oversight, investigative, and confirmation hearings, and
complements the House and Senate Reports and Documents available in our U.S. Congressional Serial Set digital
collection.
