GPO Access is a service of the U.S. Government Printing Office that provides free
electronic access to a wealth of
important information products produced by the Federal Government. The information provided on this
site is the official,
published version and the information retrieved from GPO Access can be used without
restriction, unless specifically noted.
This free service is funded by the Federal Depository Library Program and has grown out of Public
Law 103-40, known as the
Government Printing Office Electronic Information Enhancement Act of 1993.
Most material in GPO Access dates back to 1993/94 (the 103d Congress), although content of
the
Catalog of United States Government Publications is now available back to 1976 and selected
content
such as Supreme Court decisions and the Energy Citations Database include earlier years.

- The database is based upon many basic sources published by the federal government including the
Congressional Record,
the former Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, Congressional bills, reports,
and documents, selected hearings,
laws, the United States Code, the Federal Register, decisions of the U.S. Supreme
Court, the federal budget, Economic
Indicators, the "Green Book," and many other sources. It also serves as a portal to
many specialized agency databases in
the Federal Bulletin Board section.
