- Description
-
SciFinder Scholar is the electronic version of the print publication "Chemical
Abstracts". SciFinder Scholar comprehensively covers the world-wide literature of
chemistry including journal articles, patents, conference proceedings, theses and dissertations,
technical reports, government documents, etc. It allows users to search by research topic, author
name, CA abstract number, patent number, chemical structure, molecular formula, chemical name, CAS
registry number, functional groups in reactions, and bibliographic information, etc.
In 2008, CAS introduced Web version of SciFinder, which allows users to access SciFinder
Scholar through web Browser. Previously, SciFinder Scholar was only accessible through client
software. Please check out these new features
[PDF] of SciFinder Web.
Access to SciFinder Scholar at Rutgers
Access to SciFinder Scholar is limited to current faculty or administrative staff members,
officially registered students, or formally affiliated visiting scholars or researchers of the
university. Please read the SciFinder
Scholar User Agreement [PDF].
If you would like to be able to access SciFinder Scholar from your Rutgers office or lab computer,
you must first register for SciFinder Web (recommended) or install the necessary client software.
Information is available by clicking on the connect button at the top of this page.
Please note the computer specifications required to run this product and make sure your workstation
meets or exceeds those operational requirements.
Users of SciFinder Scholar at Rutgers need to keep in mind that we currently have a limit of six
simultaneous users for all of the New Brunswick campuses (four simultaneous users for the client
version and two simultaneous users for the web version), and only one user each at the Newark and
Camden campuses (SciFinder Web only after June 1st 2009). Therefore, during heavy use periods, you
may get the equivalent of a busy signal when you try to enter. If that happens, just keep trying.
Also, the system is currently set to disconnect any workstation that is idle for more than 10
minutes (i.e., no commands entered into the system for 10 minutes). So if you become immersed in
reading a list of documents retrieved from one of your searches you may be momentarily surprised
when a 10 minute warning screen pops up and you are given the option of continuing or being
automatically disconnected.
