Description
SCIPIO: Art and Rare Books Sales Catalogs is a citation database of art auction sales catalogs published by well and lesser-known auction houses. The records contained within SCIPIO are compiled by more than two dozen contributing institutions, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Frick Art Reference Library, the Getty Research Institute, the Pierpont Morgan Library, and others. The records contained within SCIPIO are citations for specific auction catalogs. These citations include the dates of sale and the sale location, the catalog title, the auction house, the sellers, and the institution that holds the catalog. Occasionally additional notes are present. This database provides bibliographic access to auction sales catalogs from all major North American and European auction houses as well as private sales. SCIPIO is searchable by keyword, auction house, title word, seller or subject word, date of sale, and sale code. It is important to note that only the citation, as opposed to the content, of the auction catalog is available through SCIPIO. Sales prices are not available. The pull down menu of the citation indicates which contributing institutions own the catalog in question. In order to see if the Rutgers Libraries own a particular auction catalog, consult IRIS, or see the Art Library's auction catalog finding aid.
