- Description
- TOXNET, is a cluster of databases covering toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental
health and
related areas. It is managed by the Toxicology and
Environmental Health Information Program (TEHIP)
in the Division of Specialized Information Services
(SIS) of the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
TOXNET
provides free access to and easy searching of a number of toxicology
databases including: HSDB (R) (Hazardous Substances Data Bank), IRIS
(Integrated Risk Information System), Carcinogenic Potency Database,
CCRIS (Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System), GENE-TOX
(Genetic Toxicology), Tox Town, Household Products Database, Haz-Map
(R), TOXMAP, and LactMed (Drugs and Lactation). TOXNET
also includes toxicology literature and chemical identification
databases: TOXLINE, DART (R)/ETIC (Development and Reproductive
Toxicology/Environmental Teratology Information Center), Toxics Release
Inventory (TRI) and ChemIDplus.

- Varies among databases; TOXLINE Core, TOXLINE Special and the DART database contain bibliographic
citations dating from 1965 to present, however it is possible you may retrieve a few citations
dating as far back as the 1940s.
- Updating frequency
- TOXNET databases are updated when new information becomes available.
- Sources
- Books, encyclopedias, handbooks, journals, government publications, technical reports, and also
archival collections that are no longer being updated: EMIC (Environmental Mutagen Information
Center file), NIOSHTIC (NIOSH), Poisonous Plants Bibliography (PPIB) and others.

- Bibliographic citations with abstracts, carcinogenicity studies, chemical dictionary, chemical
records with structure and physical data, mutagenicity studies, tumor inhibition and tumor promotion
studies, etc.
