To find a journal, magazine, or newspaper article in the most popular databases in your subject area, enter your search term(s) and choose a subject from the pull-down menu. To view a complete list of indexes and databases available at Rutgers, click on View all databases. For more information see "How Do I Find an Article?"

To find books and more in the Library Catalog, enter your term(s) and select a search type in the pull-down menu. For more information see "How Do I Find a Book?"

To find a print or electronic journal in the Rutgers collections, enter its title or keywords in the title and select the appropriate search type in the pull-down menu. For more information, see "How Do I Find a Journal?"

To find a list of books, textbooks, and electronic articles placed on course reserve by your instructor, enter your instructor's last name and search. You can also use the pull-down menu to search by course title or number.

How Do I use the Libraries text messaging notification system?

To sign up to receive text messages:

  1. Use the link in the upper left-hand corner of this page.
  2. Under My Account at the right side of the page, click on Preferences
  3. Click Select Text Message Options and log in with your NETID/password or Barcode/PIN.
  4. Complete the required information.
  5. Check the Consent Form and click Submit.

To update your information (if your cell phone number and/or carrier changes):

  1. Use the link in the upper left-hand corner of this page.
  2. Under My Account at the right side of the page, click on Preferences
  3. Click Select Text Message Options and log in with your NETID/password or Barcode/PIN.
  4. Complete the required information and select "Change cell phone and/or carrier."
  5. Check the Consent Form and click Submit.

To opt out of this service:

  1. Use the link in the upper left-hand corner of this page.
  2. Under My Account at the right side of the page, click on Preferences
  3. Click Select Text Message Options and log in with your NETID/password or Barcode/PIN.
  4. Complete the required information and select "Stop getting text messages."
  5. Check the Consent Form and click Submit.

Do I receive a confirmation once I submit my request for text messaging?

You will see a Request Confirmation message indicating "Your request has been placed." You will also see a confirmation of your request in .

How long will it take to start receiving text messages once I have submitted my request?

The processing time may be up to 72 hours. When your request has been processed you will receive an email confirmation.

Will text messages replace email notices?

No, you will continue to receive email notices which will provide more detailed information.

Will I receive texts for all library notices?

No, at this time texts will be sent for Holds Available for pick up (initial and 3 day reminder notices to pick up) and Recalls (initial and 3 day reminder notices to return recalled book).

Do all cell phone service providers support the method Rutgers Libraries is using to send text messages?

No. Rutgers Libraries are sending email messages to your cell phone as a text (SMS) messages and some providers do not support this method of communication. If your cell phone service is with one of these providers, you will not be able to sign up for the text messaging service.
