Rutgers University Libraries are continually looking for ways to improve the services we offer to faculty and students. We are delighted that many faculty members and students are using our Interlibrary Loan service to source the materials they need, but as use of this service has increased over the past two years, so has the amount of copyright fees we passed on to our patrons.

The Libraries strive to provide direct, convenient, and easy access to the world’s knowledge and we acknowledge that these fees may pose a barrier to this access for faculty and students. In the interest of supporting the important work of our colleagues and students and in the spirit of collaboration, the Libraries will, effective immediately, no longer charge users for any portion of the copyright fees associated with Interlibrary Loan. This policy applies only to fees accrued after December 8, 2015.

We place a priority on facilitating the search and discovery of library collections and are proud to be your partner in scholarship. We thank the university community for feedback on this service and hope you will join us in the libraries soon.
