About the Libraries: Policies and Other Library Documents:
Food and Drink Policy

Rutgers University Libraries' food and drink policy is intended to preserve our library collections and equipment and to maintain the overall longevity and comfort of library furnishings.

Food is not allowed in the Libraries.

Drink is permitted only in spill-proof containers in certain areas of the Libraries and unless otherwise posted. Drinks, regardless of container, are not permitted in Special Collections and University Archives, the Art Library, the Library Annex, and OIT computer labs.

Approved spill-proof containers include:

  • Spill-proof mugs with secure lids
  • Sports bottles with a drinking spout
  • Water in capped plastic water bottles

Non-Compliance
Users who do not comply with these policies will be asked to take the food or drink outside the Libraries.

Unattended food and drink in unapproved containers will be discarded.
