How Do I...
...request materials from another RU library?

To Request a Book

  1. Search IRIS to find the record for the book you need.
  1. Click on the "Book Delivery/Recall" option.
  1. Enter your library barcode and PIN.
  1. Select the library where you want to pick up the book. Do not request items that are IN-LIBRARY at your pickup library; they will be cancelled. You can retrieve items in your pickup library yourself.
  1. Place a check mark in the box beside the volume number if you want to request a specific volume in a multi-volume set. You can check off more than one volume if you wish.
  1. Click on the "Book Delivery/Recall" button.
  1. Use the "Book Special Request" option to request books under special circumstances:
    • you need a book delivered to a Rutgers law library or off-campus pickup site,
    • the item has a Status of ON-ORDER, PENDING, or IN-PROCESS,
    • the item is in a noncirculating library (ART, JAZZ, SPCOL/UA) or noncirculating Sub-Location (REF, PER, DOCREF) and you need delivery to a different geographic campus (Camden, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Newark).
  1. You will be notified by e-mail when your book becomes available for pick-up.
  1. If all Rutgers copies of the item you need are:
    • CHECKED-OUT, or
    • in a non-circulating library or collection at Rutgers,
try getting it using E-ZBorrow in PALCI.

To Request an Article

  1. Search IRIS to find the record for the journal that you need.
  1. Click on the "Article Delivery" option.
  1. Log on to the Interlibrary Loan and Article Delivery Services webpage. On the main menu under New Request select "Article Request."
  1. Fill out the entire form, providing as much information about the specific article you need as possible.

    * During the Libraries' free article delivery pilot there is no fee for delivery of journal articles from any Rutgers library.
  1. Articles are delivered electronically as PDF documents. You will be notified by e-mail when your article is available.

To Cancel a Request

  1. To cancel a book request, write to Ask-A Librarian and include your full name and the titles of the items you wish to cancel. Library staff will cancel your request and update library records.
  1. To cancel an article request, logon to the Interlibrary Loan and Article Delivery Services webpage. Select "Outstanding Requests," find the article request you wish to cancel and click on its transaction number in the left-hand column. Click on "Cancel Request" at the top of the Transaction Information screen. Your cancelled request is removed from "Outstanding Requests" and can be viewed under "Cancelled Requests."

For more information about delivery of materials in the collections of the Rutgers University Libraries, see Rutgers Delivery Service (RDS).
