from Rutgers University Libraries' Indexes and Databases!
Rutgers University Libraries subscribe to a number of
Indexes and Databases that make electronic alert
services available to Rutgers University students, faculty and staff.
Three different types of alert services are:
- Table of contents alerts
- Table of contents alerts are email updates of the table of contents of the most current issues of the
journals you specify while signing up.
- Daily/weekly email alerts
- Daily/weekly email alerts notify subscribers of articles matching submitted topics.
Alert frequencies vary depending on the publisher's database updates.
- Saved search alerts
- Saved search alerts are email notifications of recent articles matching previously submitted searches.
Please note:
In order to sign up for an alert service an email address is required along with a username and password.
Please read the privacy policy carefully before signing up.
If you are having trouble with your electronic alerts, you will need to contact the publisher of the
database/journal or the contacts listed on the web site you signed up from.

- American Chemical Society Publications

Types of services: ASAP Alerts and Table of Contents alerts.
To set up your alert visit ACS Publications Free E-mail Alert Page
and fill out the appropriate form. Please note that
Rutgers has an institutional subscription. So the answer to question number 8
How do you currently access the journals selected above? (Choose all that apply.)" on each form is
Web (Institutional Subscription) & Print (Institutional Subscription)
To find out the paper and electronic holding of these journals, search
the Library Catalog/a> enter acs, select the library RU-ONLINE, and
click on "WORDS Anywhere".
- AnthroSource

Type of Alert: Table of Contents, Journal Citations, and AnthroSource announcements from the
American Anthropological Association
Procedure: You will be required to register an account with the database to be able to access
the email alerts option. Click on the My Profile link. Once you have registered or logged in,
click on the Alerts link on the menu, select from the list of journals, and check whether you
would like to receive updates from the AAA.
To receive Journal Citation alerts, click Browse or Search to access specific issues of a
journal. Click the Citation link; then click the Alert me when new articles cite this article
link. This alert will be listed in your My Profile account.

(will e-mail the table of contents from the most recent online journal title you have selected)

Use direct link to enter your e-mail address and password, or to register for a free account.
BioOne will notify you instantly by email when the latest issues of journals on BioOne are
published online. The body of the email will contain a table of contents of the issue in
question and a link to the TOC on BioOne.

- IntelliConnect, formerly known as CCH Tax Research NetWork

For databases:
Type of Alert(s) available: Tracker News via e-mail (Allows you to keep
up-to-date on state and federal tax news.)
Procedure: From the main menu, click on the button titled "Tracker News".
Choose the link marked "Sign up for Report Letters". A new window will appear
with a menu of choices of newsletters.
- Computing Reviews

Type of Alert(s) available: Saved searches, Journal Alerts, Author Alerts, Reviewer alerts, Item and Forum Alerts.
Procedure: If you already have an account, enter your user ID and password. If you don't, scroll down
on the Login page to create a Member Account. Enter your name and email, and set your User ID and
password. Select your primary and secondary interests from the pull-down menu of Topics, and click on
Create Account in the lower right. This creates your first Alert Strategy. Reviews (if found) are shown
in every category of your Alert Profile: Topics, Saved Searches, Journals, Authors, Reviewers, Items,
and Forums. To the right of each category name is a MANAGE button you can click to view and/or edit
that part of your alert profile. You can also click ADD NEW to immediately add new alert settings to
that category.

CQ Researcher
Type of Alert(s) available: Daily/weekly email alerts. Alerts available via e-mail on user-selected topics.
Procedure: To set up an e-mail alert you must first login or create a user profile. Then, select "Create New Alert" to begin defining your own customized e-mail alerts. Use the "Start/Stop" action to start or stop receiving e-mail alerts you have saved in your account.

- CSA Illumina

Types of services: Search History, Saved Search and Alert Facilities
CSA offers both a saved search and an alerting facility. A saved search includes saving
a search strategy, which can be selected from a list and run at a later point in time.
If required, the saved search can also be saved as an alert. The alerting facility
searches the saved search for new content every week and sends an email message with
the records (max. 250) that match this new content. A journal alert can be setup only
after searching the database using a Journal Name (JN=) search, then clicking on the
alerts link to select journal alerts link from the sidebar. The saved search and other
alert options maybe accessed from Search History/Alerts button on the database search
screen.

Procedure:
Click on the "Alerts" link located on the right
hand side of the search page to login and create alerts.
- EBSCOhost

For databases:
Types of alerts available:
- Journal alerts
- Search history alerts
Procedure:
Select and connect to any of EBSCOhost databases. Click on
Sign into My EBSCOhost in the upper left hand corner. There
you may either login with username and password or select I
am a new user and create a personal account. For detailed
instructions on how to setup journal alerts and Search history alerts
select Help in the upper right hand corner of the page and choose
directions for either Setting up journal alerts or Saving a search
as an alert. Also click on the Folder icon (to the right of the search box) to learn
about marking and selecting records for saving and creating alerts from your search.
- Engineering Village

Type of Alert(s) available: Weekly email alerts.
Procedure: Select the "My Alerts" quick link from the upper right corner of the main screen. New users will be prompted to register with the site.
- Factiva
-
Factiva offers a subject or topic-based search that can be run automatically and linked to a URL (web site). To set up a URL for a particular topic, click on the "Direct Link" button after running a search. Factiva does not offer email alerts.
- IEEE Explore

Types of services: saved search and table of contents alerts
Procedure: To set up alerts you must first register at the IngentaConnect site.
Once registered, you can set up alerts by signing in and selecting
Manage My Ingenta at the right of the screen. A user guide for the

- Institute of Physics

Types of services:Two types of alert services are available: subject alerts and Table of Contents alerts (as well as other services).
Procedure: To set up alerts visit the
Institute of Physics main page, select journals,
and then alerts (upper right hand corner).
From the alerts page, see User Options in the left sidebar to read about other
powerful features.
Note: This service requires a postal address as well as an email address.

Type of Alert: Author alert (updates on new material by a particular author)
Procedure: Search for the author and add the name to your Author Alerts page by clicking the
Receive alerts for this author link. You will be prompted to create an account with My Archive
(or log in if you already have an account) by registering your email address and selecting a
password. You will arrive at the Author Alerts page, where you can add or remove additional
authors to your list. For more information, please refer to

- The Medical Letter

Use direct link to enter and submit your email address to subscribe to the alert.
- National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)

For databases:
PubMed
Type of Alert(s) available: Set up e-mail alerts for new content.
Procedure: Create a NCBI account via the hyperlink on the front page. When you click on Save Search you are asked if you
would like to receive email updates of new search results automatically. Automatic email updates of search results are sent
according to a schedule that you determine. You can choose their display and format and add some text to them (up to 200
characters).
- OVID Databases

Type of service: Daily/weekly email alerts
First, run your search in the Database. Once you get a display of results, then click on
Save Search History.
One of the options to save will be "Save Search ...as an Auto Alert Search".
Fill in the "General Parameters" and You will receive a "Confirmation Message"

- Project MUSE

Types of Alerts: Table of Content of journals and/or subject selections alerts.
Journal Alerts from Project MUSE allows you to set up alerts by journal names or by subject area or both. You will need to
set up an alerts account with a username and password and an email address. You can make selections for journal titles
individually or with a mix of subject collections. For more information please refer to the

Procedure: Access the list journals available in this database by clicking on the Journals link
on the menu at the top of the screen (underneath the search field box). Click on the View
Current Journal link underneath each journal abstract. Next, click on the [Sign up for eTOCs]
link at the top of the screen. You will be required to register your email address in order to
set up these alerts.

Procedure: Click on the My Email Alerts link on the home page of the database to enter your
