African-American Newspapers is a full-text database of several newspapers published by and for African-Americans during the nineteenth century. At present Rutgers users have access to the first four of eleven parts, which comprise:
- Freedom's Journal, New York, (1827-1829);
- Colored American, New York, (1837-1841);
- The North Star, Rochester, NY, (1847-1851);
- National Era, Washington, DC, (1847-1855);
- Frederick Douglass' Paper, (continues The North Star), 1851-1854);
- Provincial Freeman, Toronto, ON, (1854-1857);
- Christian Recorder, Toronto, ON, (1861-1864).
