Description   The SPIE Digital Library is the most extensive resource available on optics and photonics, providing unprecedented access to more than 230,000 technical papers from SPIE Journals and Conference Proceedings from 1990 to the present. More than 17,000 new technical papers are added annually. All sources are searchable and there are also several browse options for proceedings (by year, symposium, volume number, volume title, technology).

SPIE content spans a number of technology areas. Major classifications include:
  • Astronomy and Astronomical Optics
  • Biomedical Optics and Imaging
  • Communication and Information Technologies
  • Defense and Industrial Sensing
  • Electronic Imaging and Processing
  • Micro- and Nano- Technologies
  • Optics and Electro-Optics

Updating frequency   SPIE Journals and Proceedings use an "e-First" publishing timetable. New papers are added online as they complete the necessary approvals and production, and therefore issues and volumes first appear as partially complete contents that build as papers are added. Updates occur daily. Proceedings are typically published online 2-4 weeks after the date of the conference. Print publications follow completion of the online volume. For e-First publications, the electronic version is the publication of record, and citation information indicates the online publication date.
-
