Rutgers University Libraries in collaboration with RU-TV offer a cable cast service for instructors to schedule rights-cleared moving image material for student viewing at RU-TV cabled locations.

Eligibility

Rutgers faculty and teaching assistants may request cable cast of moving image materials at any time by emailing the Media Center. RU-TV is currently available only on the New Brunswick Campuses of Busch, Livingston, College Avenue, Douglass, and Cook, though materials located on any campus may be requested for cable cast in New Brunswick. The cable cast request service is not available to students, staff, affiliated borrowers, or guest borrowers.

Materials Which May be Cable Cast

Any video, laserdisc, or DVD with rights, and from the Libraries' media collections, may be requested. All media titles are cataloged in IRIS. In most cases, materials listed in IRIS as "In-Library", "On-Order," "In-Process," or "Checked Out" may be requested.

The Libraries will attempt to obtain cable cast rights for all titles requested. Instructors will be advised of the status of titles they choose as soon as a determination is made.

Approximately 2/3 of the collections are likely to be cleared for campus cable cast. Feature films are rarely accompanied by cable cast rights. Currently, Rutgers has cable cast rights to the following distributors titles. However, all titles are available for face-to-face use in the classroom, and may be booked using the online Media Materials - Booking Form.

Lead Time Needed for a Cable Cast

We accept requests up to two business days before the Cable Cast date. Rights may take some weeks to acquire so we encourage contact with us as soon as you think you might want to use the service.

The Mediavision channels are scheduled in weekly blocks:

Monday - Friday
- Afternoon - 3:00 p.m.
- Evening - 6:00 p.m.
- Night - 9:00 p.m.
- Lateshow - 11:30 p.m.

How to Place a Request to Cable Cast a Title

Read the following instructions and click on the link to the form below.

Send fill out the Mediavision Cable Cast Request Form with as much of the following information as you have.

Name and email address
Department
Course number and title
Number of students
Titles you are interested in cable casting

Your name, department, and course number, and title will be used alongside the title in the channel schedule.

Indicate the earliest and latest show dates that will answer your need.

Indicate your preferences for the day of the week and time you prefer the cable cast.

Notification

Cable casts are normally scheduled as soon as cable cast rights are affirmed. You will be notified by email as soon as the cable cast is scheduled. You will also be notified by email if the library cannot cable cast the item requested (usually because cable cast rights are not available) or if there is some other problem.
