The library has a collection of over 600,000 volumes (including approximately 300,000 books, 100,000 bound periodicals, and 200,000 federal and state publications) as well as more than 600,000 pieces of microform and 15,000 audiovisual items. The Dana Library currently subscribes to about 1,500 periodicals in print.

As part of the Rutgers University Libraries, the Dana Library has access to several hundred electronic books as well as more than 25,000 electronic journals in all academic disciplines. The library has been a federal depository since 1966 and currently selects and acquires approximately 50% of the U.S. government publications issued by the Government Printing Office.
