Workshops on Statistical Software

Dana Library is offering the following workshops on statistical software packages: SPSS, Stata, and R, and workshops on Mapping Census Data using ArcGIS, Social Explorer and PolicyMap. Please read the following for the workshop descriptions and registration information.

Introduction to SPSS
October 15th, Monday, 10:00am-11:20am, Hill Hall 124
October 15th, Monday, 2:30pm-3:50pm, Hill Hall 124

This class is for students who are new to SPSS. Through hands-on exercises, you will become familiar with the SPSS interface and its basic functions of managing data, doing statistical analysis and generating graphs. You will also learn to use syntax file to generate and save analyzing procedures.


Introduction to Stata
October 16th, Tuesday, 10am-11:20am, Hill Hall 124
October 16th, Tuesday, 2:30pm-3:50pm, Hill Hall 124

This class is for students who are new to Stata. Through hands-on exercises, you will become familiar with Stata interface and its basic functions of managing data, doing statistical analysis and generating graphs. You will also learn to use Do-file Editor to write and save analyzing procedures.


Introduction to R
October 17th, Wednesday, 10:00pm-11:20am, Hill Hall 124
October 18th, Thursday, 1:00pm-2:20pm, Hill Hall 126

This class is for students who are new to R. Through hands-on exercises, you will become familiar with the R interface and its basic functions of managing data, doing statistical analysis and generating graphs.


Mapping Census Data
October 18th, Thursday, 10:00am-11:20pm, Hill Hall 126
October 19th, Friday, 2:30pm-3:50pm, Hill Hall 124

This workshop will teach you how to download Census data from American FactFinder and map the data using ArcGIS. Students will also learn to use PolicyMap and Social Explorer to extract data and create maps online.
