Dana Library is offering the following workshops during Spring 2013.

  1. Introduction to statistical software packages: SPSS, Stata, and R
  2. Mapping Census data using ArcGIS, Social Explorer and PolicyMap
  3. Job hunting for graduate students
  4. Introduction to RefWorks

Introduction to SPSS
February 4th, Monday, 10:00am-11:20am, Hill Hall 126
February 20th, Wednesday 2:30pm-3:50pm, Hill Hall 126

This class is for students who are new to SPSS. Through hands-on exercises, you will become familiar with the SPSS interface and its basic functions of managing data, doing statistical analysis and generating graphs. You will also learn to use a syntax file to generate and save analyzing procedures.


Introduction to Stata
February 11th, Monday, 11:30am-12:50pm, Hill Hall 126
February 26th, Tuesday, 11:30am-12:50pm, Hill Hall 126

This class is for students who are new to Stata. Through hands-on exercises, you will become familiar with the Stata interface and its basic functions of managing data, doing statistical analysis and generating graphs. You will also learn to use the Do-file Editor to write and save analyzing procedures.


Introduction to R
February 6th, Wednesday, 11:30am-12:50pm, Hill Hall 126
February 21st, Thursday, 11:30am-12:50pm, Hill Hall 124

This class is for students who are new to R. Through hands-on exercises, you will become familiar with the R interface and its basic functions of managing data, doing statistical analysis and generating graphs.


Mapping Census Data
February 13th, Wednesday, 2:30pm-3:50pm, Hill Hall 126
February 28th, Thursday, 11:30am-12:50pm, Hill Hall 124

This workshop will teach you how to download Census data from American FactFinder and map the data using ArcGIS. Students will also learn to use PolicyMap and Social Explorer to extract data and create maps online.


Job Hunting For Graduate Students

This workshop will show you how to research the job market and prepare for interviews using our superior company and industry resources.
