VALE - Virtual Academic Library Environment
About the Libraries: Libraries and Centers: Blanche & Irving Laurie Music Library:
Music / Media

The Music/Media Laboratory serves as the main resource for all audio-visual materials held by the combined Laurie Music Library and the Douglass Library. This facility is located across the entrance hall from the Music Library stacks. All sound recordings and videos for the building are shelved there in closed stacks. The materials only circulate to faculty and graduate students, but all others can view or listen to them in one of the unit's many playback carrels (please present a valid photo ID). Reserves of audio-visual materials and scores are kept in the lab.

Patrons can explore the collections via IRIS. The vast majority of the sound recordings are of classical music, although there are several thousand spoken word LPs as well. The Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies in Newark contains a much larger archive of Jazz recordings. The videos at Music/Media are also focused primarily on the performing arts - dance, opera, symphonic performances and indepth documentaries on instruments and performance practices.

Music/Media is also the pickup point for the Media Materials Booking Service. However, it does not deliver or handle A-V equipment in any way, nor are its facilties open for personal recording.
