Description of Collection

The collection maintained in the Busch Campus Physics Library supports the research and educational needs in the fields of physics and astronomy for the New Brunswick academic community and to a lesser extent for related programs at the Newark and Camden campuses. Collection emphasis is focused in the following major subject categories: (1) condensed matter physics, (2) elementary particle and high energy physics, (3) nuclear physics, and (4) astrophysics. Other important subject areas include surface physics, statistical physics, and quantum theory. The Physics Library also serves as an important interdisciplinary information resource for a number of other Rutgers departments and research programs, including chemistry, materials science, electronic engineering, surface science, etc. In 2001 the Physics Library had over 15,000 monographs and 20,000 bound periodical volumes and held subscriptions to 157 journals and monographic series. The number of physics and astronomy journals available online has increased rapidly in recent years, with 493 currently accessible in full text format for the university as a whole. Literature searching needs in the fields of astronomy and physics are served by access to the INSPEC database, and more broadly by access to Web of Science.
