New Online Resource - ReferenceUSA:
Funded by the New Jersey Knowledge Initiative

The Libraries are pleased to offer a new online business database, ReferenceUSA, courtesy of the NJ State Government funded New Jersey Knowledge Initiative.

ReferenceUSA offers several searchable database modules containing detailed information on more than 12 million U.S. businesses; 102 million U.S. residents; 683,000 U.S. health care providers; 1 million Canadian businesses; and 11 million Canadian residents. For each module there is a Quick Search and a Custom Search option. A Quick Search allows searching by name, city and state, or telephone number. A Custom Search of residents allows Boolean searching of such fields as street address, ZIP code, area code, and county. A Custom Search of businesses allows Boolean searching of many fields including ticker symbol, detailed geographic location, size of business, and SIC and NAICS industry codes. Additional fields for health care providers include age, gender, educational background, and specialty of the physician or dentist.

The New Jersey Knowledge Initiative is a a project of the New Jersey State Library, supported generously by the New Jersey State Government for the next two years. The Knowledge Initiative enables institutions of higher education to collectively purchase significant science, technology, and business databases for use by researchers and students in New Jersey. The goal of the Knowledge Initiative is to help New Jersey residents remain competitive in the high tech sector.

Users can access ReferenceUSA from the frontpage of the Libraries webpage, either through IRIS or by following the path: Research Resources > Indexes and Databases > By Subject/ Business > ReferenceUSA.
