Free jazz trombonists' concert, organized by IJS - Fri. Nov. 9th @ 6:30 pm
The Rutgers' Institute of Jazz Studies (IJS) invites members of the Rutgers community and the
general public to a free jazz concert on Friday November 9th, with seven noted jazz
performers. The IJS Jazz Summit Series inaugural concert will feature jazz trombonist all-
stars Eddie Bert, Vincent Gardner, Wycliffe Gordon, Slide Hampton, Conrad Herwig, Grachan
Moncur III, and Steve Turre. The concert starts at 6:30 pm in the Paul Robeson Campus Center,
on the Rutgers-Newark campus.
Before the concert IJS will hold a panel discussion with three of the featured artists,
moderated by IJS director Dan Morgenstern, on the role of the trombone in different jazz
styles. The panel discussion is at 4:00 pm. in the John Cotton Dana Library and will be
followed by a pre-concert reception at the Paul Robeson Campus Center gallery, starting at
5:00 pm. IJS will also be holding a concurrent exhibition on the history of trombones in jazz
recordings and performance, in the offices of IJS on the 4th floor of the Dana Library.
Admission to the concert and the panel discussion is free but advance reservations are
