Faculty emeriti now have full access to Libraries databases
The Libraries recently determined that faculty emeriti can be included in our licensing agreements for off-campus access to all of our licensed databases. Faculty emeriti should follow the following process to gain access to the databases:
- Register with the Rutgers University Libraries as faculty emeriti and obtain a library barcode and PIN.
- Use their barcode and PIN to login to the Libraries web site from off-campus.
- Renew their registration with the Libraries annually.
To receive a barcode and PIN, faculty emeritus must register in-person at the circulation desk of any Rutgers library or fill out the “Registering with the Libraries’ online form https://www2.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/forms/reg_pin.shtml The faculty emeriti member should be sure to select “RU-Faculty Emeritus” in the pull-down menu next to "Your Affiliation". They will normally receive registration confirmation and a barcode & PIN via return email within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.
Once they have registered as faculty emeriti and received a valid library barcode and PIN, from a Rutgers Libraries' web page, a faculty emeriti member should just click on the NOT LOGGED IN link (in yellow) on the upper left of the Libraries webpage. Then, they should click on the "Library barcode and PIN Login" link in the lower right of the next page and enter their 14-digit library barcode and 4-digit library PIN. Once they accept the security certificate the faculty emeriti member will be returned to the page that they entered from; their LOGGED IN status will now be indicated on the upper left.
If for some reason their barcode/PIN is not recognized, faculty emeriti members should see the Libraries' Remote Access to Library Resources FAQs page http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/ask_a_lib/remote.shtml, or write to Ask a Librarian http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/ask_a_lib/ask_a_lib_form.shtml for assistance.
Faculty emeriti member's library barcode & PIN is valid for one year, with expiration generally on 12/31 of the following year. At that time they will need to contact the Libraries to confirm their current address and eligibility; and the Libraries will extend their privileges.
