C. Vivian Stringer is the head coach of the Rutgers University women's basketball team. Stringer has taken the Scarlet Knights to 10 NCAA appearances, including 10 showings in the Sweet 16, seven appearances in the Elite Eight and two Final Fours. A member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, Stringer has been named National Coach of the Year three times by her peers. Stringer, beginning her 38th year on the sidelines in 2008-09, was formerly the head coach at the University of Iowa and Cheyney State. The legendary coach grabbed her 800th career victory last season; the third women's coach, ninth coach overall and first African American to reach the milestone. She was also the assistant coach for the gold-winning 2004 U.S. Olympic team.
