New exhibit at Dana Library - Evelyn Eller, Book & Collage Artist;
April 11 – June 30, 2011
The Gallery at the John Cotton Dana Library is currently featuring the books and paper
collages of New York artist, Evelyn Eller, in her first solo show in four years.
Although she has worked in other media such as oil and acrylic painting and
printmaking, Ms. Eller focuses now on the artists´ book and the collage. Her work
is influenced by her travels and her interest in other cultures, language, and nature.
A member artist of the New York Center for Book Arts, Ms. Eller has had a number of solo
shows in the galleries of public libraries and universities, community groups and art
galleries both in the New York area and in France. She has participated in group shows
that have also been held nationally and internationally. The organizing institutions
include the Newark Public Library, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, National Museum of Women in
the Arts, the Smithsonian Institute, the Brooklyn Museum, the Kyoto Institute of Technology
and the King St. Stephan Museum (Hungary) as well as various galleries and centers for the
book arts.
Ms. Eller´s work is represented in the collections of a wide ranging group of
universities and corporations such as Citicorp, Exxon, the Museum of the City of New York,
the Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry (Miami Beach, FL), the University of
Vermont, Yale University, and George Mason University. Thanks to the generosity of the
artist, the permanent art collections of the Dana and Alexander Libraries now include paper
collage landscapes.
An opening reception and program will be held on Thursday, April 14th, 2011, from 5 to 7 PM.
