SYMPOSIUM: The Future of University Presses

Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Scholarly Communication Center, 4th Floor,
Archibald S. Alexander Library,
New Brunswick, NJ

SYMPOSIUM: "Perish or Publish: The Future of University Presses and Scholarly Publishing"

The function of university presses and scholarly publishing is under scrutiny on several fronts these days. Issues include the implications of the new electronic environment for these presses, the impact of decreasing university support, and the push to publish bestsellers. At stake is the continued existence of presses that were dependable sources of new and important intellectual works, that other publishers traditionally would not publish. Three distinguished panelists, Kate Wittenberg of Columbia University Press, Marlie Wasserman of Rutgers University Press, and Dosier Hammond of W.W. Norton & Co. will discuss the ways in which their respective publishing houses are confronting these questions.

This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is strongly requested.
