Libraries Acquire Biography and Genealogy Master Index
The Libraries new resource, Biography and Genealogy Master Index (BGMI), is a comprehensive index to nearly 12 million biographical sketches in more than 2700 volumes and editions of current and retrospective reference books. It indexes current, readily available reference sources, as well as the most important retrospective works that cover individuals, both living and deceased, from every field of activity and from all areas of the world.
BGMI indexes only reference works containing multiple biographies; it does not index periodical articles or books of biography about a single individual. Citations to entries in Biography Index will lead to articles in periodicals and to biographical monographs. It includes works published or republished from approximately 1940 to the present; coverage is most extensive from early 1960's forward.
Users can access Biography and Genealogy Master Index from the frontpage of the Libraries website, either through IRIS or from the alphabetical list on the Indexes & Databases page, or by subject under:
