NEW! Columbia Gazetteer of the World

The Libraries latest acquisition will help anyone who has ever struggled to answer the question “What was the name of *that* place again … ?!?”

The Columbia Gazetter of the World is an encyclopedic directory of world place names. The database provides descriptive information on places including historical, economic, and demographic information. The entire text of the database is searchable. The database, published by the Columbia University Press, is compiled from official records and geographical sources from around the world

Users can access the Columbia Gazetter of the World from the front page of the Rutgers University Libraries website, either through IRIS or by following one of the following two paths from the Indexes and Databases web pages: Social Sciences & Law/General Social Science OR General & Multidisciplinary/Reference Tools
