Jazz Research Roundtables
Fall 2002

The Institute of Jazz Studies, in conjunction with the Rutgers-Newark Dept. of Visual and Performing Arts, invites members of the public to attend one or more sessions of this semester’s Jazz Research Roundtable. Sessions will feature the following speakers, who will address the topics indicated:

  • Sept. 19: Eric Charry: Freeing Improvisation, circa 1960, New York: The Emergence of a New Generation of Improvisers
  • Oct. 17: Thurston Briscoe (Program Director, WBGO): The State of Jazz Radio
  • Nov. 14: Ed Berger: Benny Carter Update (with live performance by pianist Chris Neville)
  • Dec. 5: Terry Monaghan: Lenin and the Lindy Hop: The Troubled Relationship between the American Communist Party and Jazz

All programs are free and open to the public, and will take place Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 pm in the Dana Room, on the 4th floor of the John Cotton Dana Library. Refreshments will be served. For further information, please call 973/ 353-5595.
