Project Begins to Update Rutgers in WorldCat

The Rutgers University Libraries have been working with OCLC on a project to make our holdings in WorldCat more accurate. Over the years, as we have continued to catalog using RLIN and our local Sirsi Unicorn system, we have successfully added our symbol to thousands of OCLC records. Our withdrawals and the addition of original cataloging records, however, have not kept pace.

Our NJR Reclamation Project involves removing the Rutgers holdings symbol (NJR) from all WorldCat records, matching the 1.3+ million records that we have submitted, and adding our holdings symbol back on to OCLC records. OCLC will also be loading our original cataloging records.

The part of the project that is visible to WorldCat users has begun. Within the next few days there will, for a period, be no NJR holdings in OCLC. The reloading will take place over an as yet undefined period of some weeks. As OCLC analyses our records and the progress of the load, we will hopefully be able to give you an estimate about when we will once again be whole in WorldCat.

We apologize for any inconvenience this project may cause, but we know the results will be a big improvement long term. In the interim, we invite you to search our holdings using JerseyCat, RLIN, or our own catalog, IRIS, at http://www.iris.rutgers.edu/.
