Extent471 page(s)
DescriptionThe Franciscan Tommaso Obicini (1585-1632) was an early pioneer of Oriental studies and published materials dealing with Arabic, Syriac, and Coptic. This large volume is a classified vocabulary list in three languages: Arabic, Syriac, and Latin. A very large number of categories is represented, among which some are: mental activities, religion, clothing, animals of various classes, sounds and voices, meteorological terminology, etc. The collection is indeed a vocabulary repository (thesaurus) for these three languages across all of kinds of activities and subjects. A table of contents (in Latin) makes each section of words easily discoverable. A Latin index to the book was compiled by Marcus Bovelius Lucensis.
NoteTranslated into Latin from an ancient Syriac version.
