TitleWorks found in Greek, attributed to Ephrem. Volume 3
Date Created1603
Extent362 page(s)
DescriptionWhile Ephrem the Syrian had earned some reputation among Greek and Latin writers of the fifth century, his genuine works, in Syriac, remained generally inaccessible to western readers. A large corpus of writings in Greek grew up attached to his name, and these three volumes, which represent the earliest major examination into the person and work of the “Greek Ephrem,” present Latin translations of these Greek works from Italian manuscripts. There are a total of 221 works of various kinds on various biblical, spiritual, and monastic topics, and the translator also offers a number of scholia and variant readings to the texts. Volumes one and two contain introductory essays to the collection and to Ephrem’s legacy, including some “lives” of Ephrem. The third volume contains a detailed index of biblical citations, as well as a subject and word index.
NoteTranslated from Greek into Latin, with commentary.
