The Lifecycle of Information

The Information Cycle (Penn State Libraries)
Explains how news becomes information over time. Beautiful, award-winning presentation.

Selected Rutgers Resources:

Rutgers University Libraries
The largest public university library system in New Jersey, the Rutgers University Libraries offer over 3,000,000 print volumes and over 200 databases. All indexes and databases must be used onsite, but anyone can search our catalog, IRIS, to find out what books we own.

Rutgers IRIS Catalog
Here are some sample searches in IRIS for books. For best results, restrict your searches to DANA to find items in the John Cotton Dana Library:

education, urban united states - Subject keyword
student rights - Words anywhere (keyword search)
African Americans Education History - Subject keyword
Social action - Subject keyword
Noguera, Pedro - Author
Dolby, Nadine - Author
Valenzuela, Angela - Words anywhere

CQ Researcher (Rutgers-restricted access)
"Weekly reports produced by the well-regarded Washington reporting service Congressional Quarterly Inc. Each 24-page report focuses on a specific topic that is perceived as being either newsworthy or an issue of broad interest in the public policy sphere." -- from the Rutgers database information page.

Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost) (Rutgers-restricted access)
This multidisciplinary database indexes periodicals in many different fields and on many different levels, from general interest to scholarly. Students find it a handy place to begin searches because it is partly full text and because it covers so many different subjects. However, you might find that you need something more. Rutgers offers you more than 200 periodical indexes and databases in many subject areas. Don't stop here if you need additional information. Also available through Newark Public Library.

Access World News (Rutgers-restricted access)
Contains the full text of recent New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and many New Jersey newspapers, including the Star-Ledger. Over 840 U.S. and 1080 international newspapers in all.
