African Studies
The Alexander Library
is the largest of the
Rutgers University Libraries, and contains the
main research collection on African studies. Besides monograph titles, journals and databases
subscriptions, the Alexander Library houses United States, New Jersey, foreign and
international government documents, each of which has important materials pertinent to Africa
and the African Diaspora. Additional material is held at other Rutgers Libraries. The
Social Sciences Data Center at Alexander Library facilitate access to some of the RUL government
documents, and networked CD-ROM data, while also serving as a clearinghouse for existing or
newly created data collections. The
Library of Science and Medicine collects materials
related to the physical sciences and technology, including government documents. The
Mabel Smith Douglass Library houses part of the gender studies and Performing Arts collections
including the
Music Library. The
Art Library houses materials related to African art and
architecture. The
Institute of Jazz Studies is the world's foremost jazz archive and research
facility. It is to be noted that our
Special Collections and University Archives holds a fine
rare collection of travel narratives and the
Media Center unit offers a unique list of moving
image (videotape, DVD, laser disc) collections. Kilmer and Dana libraries house an excellent
business collection.
