Indexes at Rutgers University Libraries
Rutgers University Libraries provide access to a number of online indexes to periodical
articles. The literature on alcohol studies encompasses a broad range of disciplines
including medicine, public health, pharmacology, biochemistry, psychology, sociology,
social work, anthropology, and history. These disciplines are represented in the various
RUL indexes, and several are especially useful for locating alcohol-related information.

Alcohol History Database
Bibliographic records for the Center of Alcohol Studies' collection of
historical materials on alcohol use, Temperance, and Prohibition. The
collection includes monographs, pamphlets, periodicals, and Temperance
regalia.

Alcohol Studies Database
Contains over 75,000 citations to research, professional, educational, and
prevention literature related to all aspects of alcohol use/abuse, as well as recent
literature on other substance abuse. Includes monographs, book chapters, journal articles,
government documents, dissertations, videotapes, and conference papers published or
produced from mid-1980s to present. Developed and maintained by the
Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies.
Web of Science
Contains citations to journal articles from 1994 to the present in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. Allows searching by author or topic, as well as cited reference and related reference searches. Updated weekly.
ERIC
Provides access to education/prevention materials, including unpublished documents.
IngentaConnect
Multidisciplinary periodical index covering 20,000 journals from fall 1988 to present. Includes fee-based document delivery service. Updated daily.
Medline
Includes biomedical coverage of substance use/abuse. Also try the Medline Backfiles.
PsycINFO
Covers psychological aspects of alcohol and other substance use/abuse.
