Indexes and Abstracts
Rutgers University Libraries have available a substantial
and growing collection of computer searchable databases covering a
broad spectrum of subject areas including science and technology.

Of these databases, the following are most useful for obtaining information on the biological
sciences.
- BIOSIS Previews
- BIOSIS Previews database is a comprehensive index to life science and biomedical research. Each
year BIOSIS adds more than 560,000 references from more than 5,500 sources including more than 5,000
international journals, published meetings, symposia and workshops, patents, book and software
reviews. It is multidisciplinary covering, among other, Applied Zoology, Behavior and Ecology,
Biotechnology, Medicine, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, and Plant Sciences.
- ENV - Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management
- Provides interdisciplinary coverage of the medical
andn biological sciences. The database contains records describing
journal articles, monographs, and conference proceedings, covering
such topics such as bacteriology, biotechnology, environmental
engineering, environmental impact statements, health and safety,
industrial microbiology, pollution, publicc health, social poisons,
toxicology, waste management, and water treatment. Updated
annually. 1983 to the present
- Medline
- Covers the international literature on biomedicine, including the allied health
fields and the biological and physical sciences, humanities, and
information sciences as they relate to medicine and health care.
- PsycInfo
- Includes coverage of neurophysiology and behavior.
- PubMed
- PubMed permits access to a suite of resources including Medline, Old
Medline, gene and protein sequence databases as well as an "electronic bookshelf"
of several major biomedical books in electronic format.
- Web of Science
- The Web of Science is an enhanced web version of the Institute for
Scientific Information's citation indexes, including the Science Citation
Index, the Social Sciences Citation Index, and the Arts and Humanities
Citation Index. Our Web of Science subscription includes citations and
references from articles in more than 8,000 high quality, peer-reviewed
journals published from 1994 to the present.
