Children's Literature Resources
Children's literature resources are in Rutgers University Libraries and on the WWW. Both guides and actual collections are placed in
this section. Out-of-copyright collections, international collections, and guides to themes, publishers, authors and
lessons attached to specific resources make up the majority of the web-based resources.

Databases
Use ERIC for information on children's literature themes.
Children's literature is a descriptor in the ERIC Thesaurus. Other databases may be relevant depending upon
your question. It would be worth while to consult a Reference Librarian about your question to find which
databases to use.
Collections: Metropolitan New York area
Rutgers University, New Brunswick, College Avenue Campus. Zimmerli Museum: often exhibits children's book
illustrations. Currently, an exhibit called: Oh! Those Mice! features the original artwork for two children's
books featuring mice as characters.
Princeton University. The Cotsen Children's Library is a rich historical collection of 23,000 illustrated children's
books on deposit at Princeton University. Early editions of Perrault's fairy tales, Newbery family imprints, moveable
and novelty books, children's songbooks, Soviet Constructivist picture books, and a rich array of other printed books
dating from the 16th to 20th centuries are all in the collection. The Cotsen collection has literature in more than 40
languages, but primarily in the major Western European languages, Hebrew and Japanese. The collection is open to
researchers by appointment with the Curator.
