Education Statistics
Statistics are crucial data for administrative decisions, understanding of a region's
education profile, or in problem solving scenarios in school districts. The following links are
divided into geographical region as well as kind of statistic. Sets of statistics are included.

RU Libraries Databases
- Source OECD: Organisation For Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
- The online SourceOECD parallels the print output of this international governmental organization whose
publications and statistical outputrepresent the roughly 30-member nation states which share a commitment to
democratic government and the market economy and which form this IGO.With active relationships with some 70
other countries, NGOs and civil society, the OECD has a global reach. Its materials focus on economic and
social issues from macroeconomics, to trade, education, ageing society, communication and information technologies,
energy, development, and science and innovation. Dates covered: Statistical data goes back to whatever date the
OECD first began compiling each database. Books or monographs begin with 1998+. Users should search IRIS, the
Rutgers Libraries' online catalog, for corresponding publications and for older materials.
-
- Type of coverage: Full text; SourceOECD is composed of 20 thematic Collections (Studies by Theme),
19 periodicals online, some reference titles online and the OECD
statistical databases online."[From database description.]

- Schools and Staffing Survey
- The Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) collects extensive data on American
public and private elementary and secondary schools. Teachers, principals,
schools, school districts and library media centers are components of the
SASS survey system. SASS provides data on characteristics and
qualifications of teachers and principals, teacher hiring practices,
professional development, class size and other conditions in schools. SASS
data are designed to allow comparisons of public and private schools and
staff and permit the analysis of trend data. In addition, SASS data are
state-representative for the public sector and affiliation-representative
for the private sector. Public schools are also linked to their respective
districts. Public charter schools, their teachers and principals were
included in the 1999-2000 administration of the SASS. The next SASS
administration is planned for the 2003-2004 school year.

- NJ School Report Card
- Income or percentage of non-white students is not available on the NJ School Report Card However,
the latter is available separately from the enrollment data spreadsheets at
http://www.state.nj.us/njded/data/.
The income level data is available in a couple of different ways. Each
school district (not school, but the whole district) has been assigned a
District Factor Group or DFG by the NJ Department of Education. This uses
1990 census data to get a measure of socioeconomic status of the community
in which the school district resides. It varies from A, which are the
poorest districts to J, which are the wealthiest (although it goes A, B, CD,
DE, FG, GH, I, and J). These codes are available at
http://www.state.nj.us/njded/finance/sf/dfg90.shtml.

The data are also available from the US Department of Education, National
Center for Ed Stats. It has data on the percent of students who receive free
or reduced lunch for all the schools in the country (and has ethnicity data
too). It's at http://nces.ed.gov/ccd/pubschuniv.asp and goes back to 1987
(although it doesn't have 2002 data yet).
