United States Government Servers - Environmental Content

Government documents (any publication attributed to a government agency at the international, federal, state, or municipal level) are some of the best resources available in environemental studies. A good point of departure is this federal government agency access site at LSU

• Environmental Protection Administration

• Department of Commerce This site includes NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)data and publications.
• Department of Commerce, Census Bureau includes all the profiling of population resources needed for statistical analysis.
• Department of Defense Includes important environmental data as it relates to the health and safety of its forces.
• Department of Energy
• Department of Energy Includes Energy Information services, Environment, Safety and Health.Environment.
• Department of Energy Safety and Health Info Center has a web access map for very EASY searching.
• Department of Health and Human Services
• Centers for Disease Control. National Center for Health Statistics

• Department of Labor - OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) This is an extremely important site as it relates to the environment of workers. Fact sheets and reports from this agency are very helpful.

• National Science Foundation (NSF) The following sites are the discipline specific offices of the Foundation.

• United States Geological SurveyThis is an invaluble site for the student of environmental science. It is divided into the following categories: Biology, Geology, Mapping and Water. All sub-sites provide exhaustive and highly relevant links to further sites. This is not a site to be overlooked.
• United States Army Corps of Engineers
• The Yucca Mountain ProjectThis site offers up-to-date information about the status of and plans for the high-level nuclear waste repository to be built below the mountain. There is a full-text copy of the environmental impact statement, press releases and graphics are available of the mountain.

New Jersey Sites

• Ecopolicy Center "for agriculture, environmental and resources issues", Cook College at Rutgers University.
• Environmental Sciences Training Centers Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
• Gloucester County Soil Conservationist District This site provides a step-by-step schema on planning and implementing a soil erosion and sediment control program. It is a terrfic example of a community-government partnership. GCSCD is part of the New Jersey Conservation Program, which is a memeber of the National Association of Conservation Districts (see below).
• Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences Rutgers University
• New Jersey Geological Survey
• NJ Conservation District's on the Internet This is a good ælist of links' to other New Jersey environmental links, including federal sites with New Jersey categories.
• NJPIRG: New Jersey Public Interest Research Groups This site is designed for action - all the email addresses of New Jersey senators (federal and state) and congress member sare queued and ready. Full-text reports, gov't scorecards, and job announcements.

• New Jersey Soil Conservation District Employees Association
• New Jersey Weather Page
• University Consortium for Geographic Information Science A consortium of university and research institutions.
• U. S. EPA Region 2, New Jersey and New York A digital map of New Jersey and its areas of legal concern in the environment.
• USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service Although this is a federally supported resource, the Conservation Partners program with the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACDNet) provide state-by-state information. For New Jersey partnerships consult this web site.
• Water Resources of New Jersey

National (non-U.S.), International and Inter-governmental Agencies

• Environment Canada: The Green Lane. This award winning site is one of the most comprehensive environmental government sites available. The content is mainly Canadian, but provides links to related data for international or other national organizations. The meterorlogical, atmospheric, hydrological data sets are extensive and easy to use.
• The Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network (EMAN) is similar to the U.S. Long-Term Ecological Research Program. EMAN is a mult-tiered, multi-faceted, comprehensive approach to ecological monitoring.
• Czech Environmental Institute
• European Environment Agency This is a comprehensive site, both in content and format. It has full-text publications from experts and policy makers. It includes environomental data, legislation , and public policy. It is one of the best national/international environmental web sites. Search engines are available.
• Food and Agriculture Organization (United Nations)
• Habitat II : United Nations Conference on Human Settlements
• The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)This is substantial resource for policy papers,annual resport, press review and many other publications and resources.
• One World An amazing collection of material, multimedia, all dealing with environmental partnerships and world development. Many governmental and NGO contributions.
• Polish National Parks
• Statistical Office of Slovenia Includes an environmental section.
• The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
• The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) UNEP's mandate is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to impoove their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
• The United Nations Population Fund

• The World Bank An important site for information on developing nations and foreign direct investment. Data rich site.

• Central European Environmental Data Request Facility (CEDAR)Provides web access to local environmental experts. Research interests and publications are listed, some available in full-text.
