Indexes and Databases
Alphabetical list of indexes and databases available through the Rutgers University Libraries.

Academic Search Premier
This database contains interdisciplinary, full text content from thousands of magazines and scholarly journals. To limit your search results to full text, scholarly material, check the boxes for "Full Text," and "Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed) Journals."

Access World News
Access World News provides full-text access to a short list of French news sources, including:

  • Agence France-Presse (2/6/2004-present)
  • La Chaine Info (12/4/1997-present)
  • World Association of Newspapers (10/12/99-present)
  • Company News Group (12/19/2005-present)
  • PR Newswire Europe (11/29/2005-present)

To cross-search these resources, connect to the Access World News database. Then click on Europe on the world map, then click on France on the map. THE ARTFL PROJECT: Project for American and French Research on the Treasury of the French Language
ARTFL, American and French Research on the Treasury of the French Language, is a research tool for scholars and students in all areas of French studies. ARTFL provides access to a variety of French-language textual resources, including Frantext, a full-text keyword searching of a corpus consisting of nearly 2000 texts, ranging from classic works of French literature to various kinds of non-fiction prose and technical writing.

Contemporary Authors
This database includes biographical and bibliographical information on contemporary authors worldwide. The database includes information on many contemporary Francophone literary figures.

Corpus de la Littérature Médievale
The Corpus of Medieval Literature contains more than 800 French literary works, narratives, poems, and plays from the ninth through the sixteenth centuries, all in French.

Dictionnaire de L'Ancienne Langue Française
The database is the full-text electronic version of Le Dictionnaire de l'Ancienne Langue Française et de tous ses Dialectes du IX au XV Siècle, published between 1880 and 1902, which remains an essential reference for medieval French language and lexicography.

Dissertations and Theses
Includes citations for dissertations rangling from the first U.S. dissertation published in 1861, to those accepted as recently as last semester. Dissertations published from 1980 forward also include 350-word abstracts. Dissertations published since 1997 include 24-page previews.

Google Scholar
Google Scholar contains full-text scholarly books and articles. Currently, Google Scholar emphasizes science and social science content, while humanities coverage is not nearly as comprehensive. Please note that books included in both Google Books and Google Scholar may provide either full text content or some content preview but not cover-to-cover content.

Historical Abstracts
Historical Abstracts is a comprehensive bibliography for material on the history of the world from 1450 to the present. It covers all countries and regions, excluding the United States and Canada.

Humanities Full Text
This database contains full-text articles and information relating to several disciplines in the humanities. The database is particularly useful for interdisciplinary humanities research.

IngentaConnect
The Rutgers IngentaConnect gateway is a searchable database of more than 11 million citations from over 25,000 publications. Links to electronic full-text journals that Rutgers University subscribes to and has registered with IngentaConnect are available through the gateway.

International Medieval Bibliography Online
This is a comprehensive database of scholarship on the medieval period, including scholarship on the Middle Ages in the French language. To use the International Medieval Bibliography Online, click "Connect," then "Enter Databases," then under "Bibliographies," click "Go." Enter your search terms and click on "Search and Show Hit List." At your results list, click on the tiny "IMB" icon to view the record for the result. Please note, IMB is a citation database only, full text content is not available in the database itself.

JSTOR
JSTOR provides electronic access to back runs of journals, beginning with Volume 1 of each journal, however, due to the so-called "moving wall," JSTOR does not include current issues of journals. Therefore the most recently published issue of any current journal will not appear in JSTOR until 2-5 years after the publication date. Of interest to those studying French language and literature is the fact that JSTOR includes both MLN and Yale French Studies.

MLA International Bibliography
The MLA International Bibliography indexes critical scholarship on literature, language, linguistics, folklore, and film in journal articles, series, monographs, dissertations, bibliographies, proceedings and other materials. Coverage includes literature from all over the world--Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America.

Project Muse
Project Muse provides full-text access to more than 200 scholarly journals in the arts and humanities; social sciences; and mathematics. Fields covered include literature and criticism; history; the visual and performing arts; cultural studies; education; political science; gender studies; economics; and many others.
