Access Arrangements with Other Libraries

The Rutgers University Libraries participate in a number of cooperative agreements with research institutions throughout the U.S. and Canada. In particular, you have on-site access to all of the libraries that are part of the Research Libraries Group. This means that your Rutgers ID should provide you access to (but not borrowing privileges at) most major research libraries, including Princeton, Columbia, and New York University. Particularly if you plan to visit the archives or special collections, it is usually wise to telephone or email beforehand. For more details on access agreements, see: Public Services Policy Memo 6: Cooperative Access Arrangements.

As a Rutgers student, you are also entitled interlibrary loans from the Center for Research Libraries (CRL). CRL is a consortium of research libraries in North America that pools resources to purchase special materials. It makes available over five million volumes that are rarely held in other institutions and Loan periods are indefinite, but subject to recall. For more information on http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/libs/crl/crl.shtml.
