Mathematics
The Mathematical
Sciences Library holds the primary collection of materials in
mathematics, including books and journals related to statistics and
computer science. For mathematical science books, journals and other
resources in other Rutgers University Libraries, use IRIS,
our online catalog, to locate these resources. Use the Indexes
for Math to find articles from selected journals and books.
This page will lead to selected resources and research guides available
on the Internet.
Indexes and Abstracts
Most of the titles listed here are
found at the Mathematical
Sciences Library, the Library
of Science and Medicine, or the Libraries
home page
(www.libraries.rutgers.edu)
under Indexes
and Databases.
The most important tool for
searching mathematics literature is MathSciNet
(1940-present), available on Libraries
home page.
It includes the print copies of Mathematical Reviews
and Current Mathematical Publications.
For literature published between 1930 and 1940, consult Zentralblatt
für Mathematik und ihre Grenzgebiete.
- Zentralblatt für Mathematik und ihre
Grenzgebiete (1931-1994) -- available
through Zentralblatt
Math. Rutgers University does not subscribe to the
web version of Zentralblatt Math. Users can get up to 3
citations free for each search query. Volumes
published between 1931
and 1978 are
available at EMANI
web site.
- Mathematical Reviews (1940 –
1999) -- available through MathSciNet.
- Current Mathematical Publications -- available
through MathSciNet.
DigitalBooks
More books in the field of
mathematics are now available on the web. To look for an
electronic book, one may try the following web sites.
- Google
Books (http://books.google.com)
Google has digitized many books from library collections. You can
search for books by
subject, phrase, author, title, and other criteria. If you limit your
search to "full-view," the results will all be books that you can read
in their entirety. "Limited-access titles", however, also
allows you to take a glimpse of the book, even though some pages of the
book are blocked.
Online Journals
Before you
spend
time surfing the following web sites, please note that many journals
can be accessed through IRIS,
Rutgers Libraries Catalog. If the journal title is not found
in IRIS, then check the "A-Z
list" under "electronic journal lists".
- Directory
of Open Access Journals (http://www.doaj.org)
This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and
scholarly journals. The service provider aims to cover all subjects and
languages. As of May 2008, there
are now 3340 journals in the directory. Currentl 1133 journals are
searchable at article level. The site is maintained by Lund
University Libraries.
- EMANI
(http://www.emani.org)
The aim of the Electronic Mathematics Archives Network Initiative
(EMANI) is to provide long term preservation and access to mathematics
literature. Its major partners include the scientific publisher,
Springer-Verlag, and most importantly four major academic
libraries: Cornell University Library (Ithaca, New York), the State and
University Library Göttingen (Germany), Tsinghua University
Library (Beijing), and Orsay Mathematical Library (Paris).
- Digi
Zeitschriften (http://www.digizeitschriften.de)
This is a German
Digital Journal Archive which covers
mathematics and many other disciplines. Many titles require
institutional subscription. The math titles, however, are
mostly open access titles.
- NUMDAM
(http://www.numdam.org/en/)
Digitization of Ancient Mathematics Documents
This is a digitization project supported by CNRS and the Direction
de la Recherche. It contains archives of
mathematical journals published in France.
