Professional Organizations and Associations

National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
The largest organization of social workers, the NASW promotes professional development, creates professional standards, and advances social policies. The web site has links to a plethora of resources, including the NASW code of ethics.
See also the Social Work Portal, designed to help the public find information about social work issues, services, education and careers in one place.

National Association of Social Workers-New Jersey Chapter

Center for Workforce Studies-NASW
This center was established by the NASW in 2004 to "conduct studies of the current social work labor force…and to serve as a unique clearinghouse for educators, policy makers, social workers, and public and private work force planners." In particular, see the Workforce Research Studies link and the quick facts from the National Study of Licensed Social Workers.

American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy
The homepage of this organization includes information available to the public, including two online directories: MFT Graduate Schools and MFT State Licensing Boards.

Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work
"The Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work (AGESW) provides leadership and assistance to social work educational programs and professionals in order to advocate for the integration of gerontological content in undergraduate and graduate social work education; to promote the teaching of gerontology to all social workers; and to develop short and long-term perspectives in relevant curricular developments."

Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups
"The AASWG … is a not-for-profit organization of group workers, group work educators, and friends of group work who support its program of advocacy and action for professional practice, education, research, training and writing about social work with groups."

Association of Oncology Social Workers
The Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) is a non-profit, international, organization dedicated to the enhancement of psychosocial services to people with cancer and their families.

Clinical Social Work Association
"The Association is a national individual membership organization dedicated to providing essential services, products, professional support, and national identity for Clinical Social Workers…it is an outgrowth of the Clinical Social Work Federation, a 30+ year old national organization with a rich and successful history of advocacy on behalf of Clinical Social Workers. "

Council on Social Work Education
A national organization that represents undergraduate and graduate programs of professional social work education.

Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research
IASWR promotes social work research conducted under the auspices of academic and professional organizations.

International Association of Schools of Social Work
The IASSW is an international association of institutions of social work education, organizations supporting social work education and social work educators.

International Federation of Social Workers
The IFSW is a "global organisation striving for social justice, human rights and social development through the development of social work, best practices and international cooperation between social workers and their professional organisations." The site includes a monthly update of activities and 12 policy statements on ethical and human right issues.

Latino Social Workers Organization (LSWO)

National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW)

National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization
This organization provides resources for professionals, including conference information, statistics and research and a variety of other information and advocacy resources.

North American Association of Christian Social Workers (NACSW)

School Social Work Association of America
This is the national organization dedicated to advocacy for and the professional development of school social workers.

Society for Social Work and Research
The Society works collaboratively with other organizations that are committed to improving the support for research among social workers.

Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care
This organization promotes, develops, and supports social work values, practice, and leadership in health care.
