The Commission is a 15-member interdisciplinary body of experts in aging and law, including
lawyers, judges, health and social services professionals, academics, and advocates. It examines a
range of law-related issues such as housing needs, elder abuse, guardianship, health and long-term
care, and legal services to older persons. Available on the site are policy positions, legislative
updates, and a variety of online books and brochures such as a Legal Guide for Older Americans and

American Geriatrics Society
"The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is a not-for-profit organization of over 6,700 health

American Society on Aging
"The membership of ASA is a multidisciplinary array of professionals who are concerned with the

Center for Healthy Aging-model health programs for communities
A program of the National Council on Aging, the Center for Healthy Aging encourages and assists

The Adoption History Project
This site "introduces the history of child adoption in the United States by profiling people,
organizations, topics and studies that shaped adoption during the twentieth century."
Included are links to historical field, outcome, and nature-nurture studies, a bibliography,
and a range of primary sources. The site was created and is maintained by Dr. Ellen Herman in
the Department of History at the University of Oregon.
Alliance for Children and Families
Formed by the 1998 merger of Family Service America and the National Association of Homes and
Services for Children, the Alliance provides services to private nonprofit child and family service
organizations. The site features public policy issue briefs and fact sheets, collections of links to
related organizations, information about Alliance programs, and publications and statistics.
American Humane Association
The American Association for Protecting Children is the division of the American Humane Association
that works to improve services for children and families. The AAPC division offers service training,
provides expert assistance, conducts research on child abuse, and advocates legislation on the

The Annie E. Casey Foundation
The primary mission of the foundation is to foster public policies, human service reforms, and
community supports that more effectively meet the needs of vulnerable children and families. Its many

Casey National Alumni Study
Reports from the Casey National Alumni Study present life experiences, educational
achievements, and current functioning of more than a thousand alumni of Casey foster care.
The reports present data collected from case records and interviews of 1,087 Casey foster-
care alumni who were served between 1966 and 1998.
Center for Family Policy and Practice
CFFPP focuses on barriers faced by never-married, low-income fathers and their families.
It conducts policy research, provides technical assistance, training, and public education.
Center for Law and Social Policy-CLASP
CLASP is a public-interest law organization that conducts research, policy analysis,
and advocacy on issues related to economic security for low-income families with
children. Its family policy projects include welfare reform, workforce development,
child care, child support enforcement, child welfare, couples and marriage policy,
and reproductive health and teen parents.
Center for Research on Child Wellbeing
The CRCW conducts research on children's health, education, income, and family structure. Its goal is
to promote basic research on children's wellbeing and link research to practice and public policy. A
major project is the Fragile Families and Child WellBeing Study. Publications available include
working papers, research briefs, and city reports.
Center for the Study of Social Policy
The Center was founded in 1979 to assist federal, state, and local governments in improving human
services for low-income and other disadvantaged populations. Its mission is to effect change through
the analysis of existing policies and the development of new ones. It prepares publications in the
areas of income maintenance, social services, health care, disability, long-term care, and services
to children, youth, and families.
Child Rights Information Network-CRIN
CRIN is a global network coordinating and promoting information and action on child rights. Its guiding framework is the UN
Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). CRIN's activities are based on the belief that information is a powerful tool
for realising children's rights. CRIN distributes news, events and reports, lobbies, enables advocacy and promotes
knowledge sharing and coordination.

This nonprofit, nonpartisan organization conducts research on child well-being, marriage and the

Fostering Results
This is a public education and outreach campaign that focuses on finance and court issues related to

Foundation for Child Development
The Foundation for Child Development (FCD) is the oldest private, independent, grantmaking foundation

NCOFF is an interdisciplinary policy research center dedicated to research, practice, and policy
development on father involvement and family development. In addition to publications, the site
includes the FatherLit Database, a compilation of citations, annotations, and abstracts for over
8,500 basic and policy research publications on fathers, families, and child welfare, and the
Fathering Programs Database that consists of entries about organizations who conduct research, study
policy, and/or provide counseling in the field of fathers and families.
National Resource Center for Family-Centered Practice and Permanency Planning
The center "focuses on increasing the capacity and resources of State, Tribal, and other publicly
supported child welfare agencies to promote family-centered practices that contribute to the safety,
permanency, and well-being of children while meeting the needs of their families."
Pew Commission on Children in Foster Care
The Pew Commission on Children in Foster Care has been established to develop recommendations to
improve outcomes for children in the foster care system. The Commission issued a
major report in May,
2004, and the website also highlights recent papers, data, and the
commission newsletter.
Promising Practices Network on children, families and communities
This project is operated by the Rand Corporation and is "is dedicated to providing quality evidence-
based information about what works to improve the lives of children, youth, and families. The PPN site
features summaries of programs and practices that are proven to improve outcomes for children. All of
the information on the site has been screened for scientific rigor, relevance, and clarity.
The Urban Institute
The Urban Institute conducts research that informs policy across a broad range of topics that
includes children, housing, welfare reform, immigration, cities and metropolitan regions, the
nonprofit sector, and tax policy. One of its major projects is Assessing the New Federalism, an

A 2003 GAO report to Congress that determined the number and characteristics of children voluntarily placed in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems to receive mental health services, the factors that influence such placements, and promising state/local practices that may reduce the need for the placements. National Center for Children in Poverty
The mission of this nonpartisan policy organization is to "identify and promote

This international, nonprofit organization was established in 1952 and conducts biomedical, social science, and public health research that focuses on problems related to reproductive health and population growth. A variety of publications and working papers are accessible online.
Population Reference Bureau
The Population Reference Bureau was established in 1929 and is a private, nonprofit organization that
gathers, interprets and disseminates information about U.S. and international population trends and
their policy implications. Focus areas include the environment, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and

RAND Corporation
RAND provides research and analysis covering many policy issues, including children, population and aging, education, health and health care.
Urban Institute
The Urban Institute conducts research that informs policy across a broad range of topics including
children, housing, welfare reform, immigration, cities and metropolitan regions, the nonprofit
sector, and tax policy. One of its major projects is Assessing the New Federalism, an effort to
