Subject Research Guides:
Theater and Dance
This is a guide to basic resources in theater and dance available at Rutgers University.
The
Mabel Smith Douglass Library and
Music Library house the
main collections on theater and dance, including books, periodicals, and visual materials.
Douglass also has some art history and
studio art materials, and Music has sound recordings and scores.
Alexander Library has additional print resources,
particularly in the areas of dramatic literature and criticism.
The
Paul Robeson Library on the Camden campus and the
Dana Library on the Newark campus have theater collections complementing their theater arts programs.
More sound
recordings can be found at the
Institute of Jazz Studies, and
additional visual materials are at the
Media Center
in the
Kilmer Library.
Special Collections and University Archives holds significant collections of theatrical manuscripts and rare print materials.
Related Rutgers subject research guides include those for
Art History,
Cinema Studies,
Communication,
Jazz,
Media Collections, and
Music.
Theater or theatre?
When searching, always assume that either is possible. IRIS, the Rutgers University Libraries'
online catalog, always uses theater in subject headings, but follows the author's preference for titles. This will not
be the case in every catalog or in every database (British sources almost always use theatre), so always try both
spellings.
