Women and Religion Women and religion as a field of study covers a broad range of topics. Here, five subject areas are selected for their contemporary salience in women's studies, their relevance to the specialization of Rutgers faculty who work on religion and women, and for their broader general interest. The divisions between these subject areas are permeable and resources listed under one topic may also be relevant to other topic headings. For instance, world religions are divided into "religions of the Book" (Sacred Texts) and religions based more in oral tradition and ritual (Spirituality and Ritual). Listed resources reflect sample holdings published from 2000 to present, together with randomly selected turn-of-the- century historical documents, that are available in the RU Libraries system. Resources are arranged by topic rather than by media category. This subject-focused guide is strictly representative and does NOT reflect the entire holdings available. Subject Headings noted under each topic suggest search terms for use in finding additional materials through IRIS and available databases. Religious Activism: Nuns frequently engage in social and economic activism. Subject Headings Sacred Texts: Islam is considered to be a "Religion of the Book." Subject Headings. Sexuality: The relationship between women's bodies and religious law is a matter of sexual ethics. Subject Headings. Spirituality And Ritual: Witchcraft represents one form of ritual-based religious practice. Subject Headings. Theology And Philosophy: Liberation Theologies are twentieth century dialogues about God in the world. Subject Headings. Subject Research Guides | |||
