Borrowing Privileges

Primary Borrowers

Borrowing Privileges:

Primary borrowers are registered in WorkFlows with a FACSTF, GRAD, UGRAD, UMDFS or UMDSTU profile. They are eligible for the Rutgers Delivery Service (holds, requests, and recalls in the Library Catalog), self-renewal of checkouts and other features of MY ACCOUNT, E-ZBorrow, interlibrary loan and article delivery services, and use of Reserve materials.

Off-campus Access Privileges:

  1. Current Rutgers student, faculty, and staff are eligible for off-campus access to licensed electronic resources with NetID login.
  2. Emeritus faculty, visiting scholars, and individuals in Rutgers-UMDNJ joint programs are eligible for off-campus access with barcode & PIN login.
  3. Rowan Camden County, retirees, and UMDNJ-RWJ borrowers have primary borrowing privileges but are not eligible for off-campus access under our contractual agreements with vendors.

Primary Borrowing Privileges by Type of Material and Loan:

Rutgers books Loan Period Faculty/graduate students/staff: Semester loan
Undergraduates: 6 week loan
  Renewal If not BLOCKED or BARRED for any reason, users can renew using the "Renew Checkouts" option in the MY ACCOUNT section of the Library Catalog.
  Overdue Overdue at 7 days, at 40 days borrowing privileges will be BARRED, at 90 days overdue a Bill for Replacement notice is sent.
  Overdue Recall Overdue when not returned within the 14-day recall due date period, fines accrue at $5 per day to a maximum of $50.00 and borrowing privileges will be BLOCKED.
  Borrowing Limit 240 items
 
Reserve books Loan Period Varies. Most reserve books circulate for 2 hours.
  Renewal Books on reserve are not eligible for online renewal. Staff may renew books for users at the reserve desk if no other users have been asking for the material.
  Overdue Fines accrue at $1 per hour overdue to a maximum of $25, BLOCKED at $5 of accrued fines, BARRED at 40 days overdue, at 90 days overdue a Bill for Replacement notice is sent.
 
AV materials Loan Period CDs : Faculty/graduate students/staff: 14 days; undergraduates: 3 days
Audio cassettes, discs, tapes: Faculty/graduate students/staff: 14 days
Videos, DVDs: Faculty/graduate students/staff: 3 days;
Music DVDs to undergraduates for 3 days
Slides, film loops, filmstrips, and kits: 14 days for faculty, staff, undergraduates, and graduate students
  Renewal None, AV items are not eligible for renewal.
  Overdue 1 day overdue notice, at 7 days overdue a Bill for Replacement notice is sent and privileges will be BARRED.
 
E-ZBorrow books Loan Period 6 weeks
  Renewal If not BLOCKED or BARRED for any reason, users can renew E-ZBorrow books once for an additional 6 weeks. The 6 week renewal loan takes effect on the day the renewal is made; 6 weeks are not added to the original due date unless thatís when the renewal is made. EZ-Borrow books cannot be renewed if they are not renewed within seven (7) days from the initial due date.
  Overdue 1 day overdue notice, at 7 days overdue a Bill for Replacement notice is sent and privileges will be BARRED; the delinquent accounts process may be initiated for E-ZBorrow books after 7days overdue.
  Overdue Recall Overdue when not returned within the 7-day E-ZBorrow recall due date period, fines accrue at $5 per day and borrowing privileges will be BLOCKED.
 
Interlibrary loan materials Loan Period Varies. ILL Books generally circulate for 28 days.
  Renewal If not BLOCKED or BARRED for any reason, users can renew ILL materials that are not designated "No Renewal" once for an additional 28 days. The 28-day renewal loan takes effect on the day the renewal is made; 28 days are not added to the original due date unless that's when the renewal is made. ILL materials cannot be renewed if they are not renewed within seven (7) days from the initial due date.
  Overdue 1 day overdue notice, at 7 days overdue a Bill for Replacement notice is sent and privileges will be BARRED; the delinquent accounts process may be initiated for ILL materials books after 7days overdue.
  Overdue Recalls Overdue when not returned within the 7-day ILL recall due date period, fines accrue at $5 per day and borrowing privileges will be BLOCKED.
 
Equipment Loan Period 4-hour loan period, in-library use only.
  Renewal No renewals. Staff may renew equipment for users at the circulation desk if no other users have been asking for it.
  Overdue $5 per hour overdue up to maximum $25.
 
Netbook Loan Period 4-hour loan period, in-library use only.
  Renewal No renewals. Staff may renew netbooks for users at the circulation desk if no other users have been asking for one.
  Overdue $10 per hour overdue up to a maximum $100.


Guest Borrowers

Guest borrowers are registered in WorkFlows with a GUEST profile. They are eligible for self-renewal of checkouts in the Library Catalog and other features of MY ACCOUNT, and use of Reserve materials.

Guest borrowers are not eligible for off-campus access to licensed electronic resources.

Guest Borrowing Privileges

Rutgers books Loan Period 6 weeks
  Renewal If not BLOCKED or BARRED for any reason, guest borrowers may renew books using the "Renew Checkouts" option in the MY ACCOUNT section of the Library Catalog.
  Overdue Overdue at 7 days, at 40 days borrowing privileges will be BARRED; at 60 days a Bill notice will be sent.
  Overdue Recall Overdue when not returned within the 14-day recall due date period, fines accrue at $5 per day and borrowing privileges will be BLOCKED.
  Borrowing limit 25 books
