When completed by faculty online, RA applications forms are emailed to the 'access' group email account. This account is monitored by a group of access services staff, one of whom is assigned primarily responsibility for processing the applications and creating new RA cards.
This service is for faculty but occasionally academic staff have need for research assistants. Contact or refer to the Head, University Libraries Access & Interlibrary Services if you have questions about staff eligibility for RA cards.
Instructions:
To create an RA card:
Display the faculty and RA's personal library record and confirm that they are in good standing (no overdue books, bills, etc.). You may duplicate the faculty member's record and modify it to create an RA record. In addition to the Profile, Demographic Stat, and Expiration noted above, scan a new patron barcode, and modify the record as follows: In the Name field use "professor's last name, first name/RA's last name, first name," for example, DOE, JANE/Smith, John. Change RU-ONLINE Library to your library. Add a 10th digit to the faculty member's SSN in the AltID field, 1-9 for up to 9 RAs. For example, 123-45- 6789-1, 123-45-6789-2, etc. or the 1st and 2nd RA, etc. Mailing addresses are same as the professor's. For Email addresses, follow the professor's and separate with a comma and space the RA's email address in both Address 1 and 2, example: faculty@rci.rutgers.edu, ra@eden.rutgers.edu
Create a plastic RUL Borrowing card. Attach new patron barcode, write FAC/RA and expiration date on the card. Mail or give the RA card to the faculty member, not to the RA.
