It is possible for a user to enter an REQ using their RUID number if they do not have a barcode and are not required to enter a PIN #. If you receive such a request:
If a request for an off-site location is received for a user who does not have a barcode, RDS staff will assign a barcode and charge the item to the user. RDS staff will notify user of the assigned barcode with the following statement:
When this request was created, you were not registered with the libraries. I've verified you in our database and assigned you a barcode (290300xxxxxxxx) in order to check the item out to you.
If you have an RUconnection photo ID card with a barcode on the back, please call or stop by any Rutgers library circulation desk or write to "Ask a Librarian" (http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/ask_a_lib/ask_a_lib.shtml) and ask to have the barcode I just entered in your record updated with your RUconnection card barcode.
Items going off-site must be charged to a user with a valid barcode as off-site locations do not have the ability to register users.
If a request for a RUL site is received for a user who does not have a barcode, RDS staff will charge the item using the user's RUID number and send it to the requesting library. Circulation staff at the pick-up library will register the user and provide pin # when patron comes to desk for pick-up.
