Special Pickups

in
Public Services Policy Memo 8.
Mail
- The Shipping Department maintains a postage meter and processes official mail for all New
Brunswick/ Piscataway Libraries.
- We also have a UPS account used primarily for interlibrary loans but also for other
specialized mailings.
- We, along with UPS sites at LSM, Dana (Newark), and Robeson (Camden), pack and process interlibrary loans to universities
throughout the country and internationally. A second account is used exclusively for all
PALCI sites.
- We also maintain a stock of packing materials (bags, tape, etc.) and distribute them upon
request to the Camden and Newark interlibrary loan departments. To request supplies call or
email Henry Charles at 2-7920 or hc@rci.rutgers.edu.
- Shipping also supplies campus mail labels to all libraries.
- Intercampus mail to all non-library sites is handled by the Mail and Distribution Services
(Campus Mail). Two deliveries are made daily.
Things to remember about U.S. mail:
- Along with the most recent hike in postage some other modifications were introduced by the U.S. Postage Service, namely - size based postage.
- Remember - the smaller the envelope or package the cheaper it will be.
- Do not use envelopes with clasps.
Reminders
- Use small boxes for small items. This is particularly important for campus mail as all mail for the Camden - Robeson Library must fit into specialized bins.
- When preparing a box for shipment, fill in any empty space with crumpled newspaper or some other soft packaging and make sure the bottom is adequately sealed.
- Do not utilize hand carries for personal items.
- When addressing an envelope, remember to always cross out the previous address.
- Finally, PALCI is not a department.
