There is no single map library within RUL and there is no systematic and focused effort to collect maps as such. Maps are acquired as appropriate to the focus of individual libraries. The major concentrations of map holdings are in the Library of Science and Medicine, where the collection concentration is on geologic and other scientific maps, and in Special Collections and Archives where maps related to New Jersey and the region are collected comprehensively. In addition, early maps for the Discovery and Exploration and Westerners in Japan Collections are acquired selectively in that unit. There is also significant cartographic material in the major Government Publication Collections in RUL, especially in the Alexander Library and the Library of Science and Medicine.
